Have you ever doubted yourself, disliked your personality, thinking that you are not worthy for good things in your life?

Have you ever been troubled by your character?

Being too hot-temper to crash with others unnecessarily? Being too timid to speak out when needed?

Too strict to yourself and dwell too much on your mistakes? Too unconsiderate as to blame others on all your faults?

Too lazy to work hard ? Too hardworking to work smart?

Are you being too talkative or too quiet; Think too much on little things or think too little on big things?

Have you ever thought, Why are we born with such and such personalities? Could we change our characters for the better?

In this meeting, we will look into these issues through the view of Buddhism. We will introduce how Buddhism explains the vast varieties of characters in people, and how we can transform ourselves, to bring out the best of us, through Buddhist practice.

This meeting is jointly organized with students from Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) and Universtiy of Toronto. We welcome everyone to join us in this meaningful session, to explore our characters and to make a concrete change in our lives.

Quotes

"When we plant the seeds of self- doubt, only noxious weeds sprout. When we limit ourselves with low expectations, the growth of the tree of happiness immediately ceases. The power of growth, of improvement, the power to overcome all stagnation and break through every obstacle and transform a barren wasteland into a verdant field - that unstoppable power of hope resides right there in your own heart. It will well up from the rich earth of your innermost being when you face the future without doubt or fear: "I can do more. I can grow. I can become a bigger and better human being" - life and faith are a never-ending struggle to grow."

- Daisaku Ikeda, President of Soka Gakkai International (SGI)

Note: Similar Buddhism introductory and chanting sessions will be held on Mondays on a two-weeks interval throughout the Winter Semester, same time and location. Please refer to our website for updated information.
